The PE Act
requires a registered professional engineer to comply with requirements relating to continuing professional
development (CPD) as part of the criteria to renew his
practising certificate. An extract of the Act is
as shown below:
18(4)(f) - The Board may
refuse to issue a practising certificate if the Board is not
satisfied that the applicant has complied with the prescribed
requirements relating to continuing professional education.
The Board has, with the approval
of the Minister, made rules for the purposes of the CPD.

relevant paragraphs in the PE Rules
on CPD requirements (namely, paragraphs 10A, 10B, 14A, 14B, 14C and 14D).
The Board's
continuing professional development (CPD) programme for professional
engineers is to reinforce the need for lifelong
learning. It is also in line with the emerging global trend
towards promoting and ensuring continuous learning by engineers
and other professionals so as to maintain their competency.
