An engineer who meets the following requirements may apply for registration with the Board:
 
1) Educational qualification - anyone who:
  a) holds a Degree of Bachelor of Engineering from the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University or the University of Singapore;
  b) holds any other degree, diploma or qualification listed in the Professional Engineers (Approved Qualifications) Notification; or
  c) satisfies the Board that he is otherwise qualified by having proper and recognised training in engineering and who passes an examination prescribed by the Board.

and
 
2) Sufficient relevant practical experience after obtaining the approved qualifications, as follows:
  a) practical experience in engineering work at a professional level in Singapore for a continuous period of more than two years and has passed such professional practice examination as prescribed by the Board;
  b) practical experience in engineering work for more than 5 years, which shall include prescribed practical experience in engineering work at a professional level in Singapore for more than two years comprising a continuous period of at least 12 months gained within the 5 years immediately preceding the date of his application for registration; or
  c) practical experience in engineering work at professional level of more than 10 years which is recognised by the Board.
  For applicants with experience that comes under paragraphs 2(a) or 2(b) above, the type of relevant practical experience should be as follows:
  a) where the person seeks to be registered in the civil or structural engineering discipline, the practical experience shall be obtained:
    i) during a period of more than 12 months in a design office of the Government or an organisation approved by the Board and whilst under the supervision of a registered professional engineer in the employ of the Government or who has in force a practising certificate; and
    ii) during a period of more than 12 months in supervisory work at a project site or engineering investigation work whilst under the supervision of a registered professional engineer in the employ of the Government or who has in force a practising certificate;
  b) where the person seeks to be registered in the mechanical engineering discipline, the practical experience shall be practical experience in mechanical engineering work obtained during a period of more than two years in a mechanical workshop or organisation approved by the Board and whilst under the supervision of a registered professional engineer in the employ of the Government or who has in force a practising certificate; 
  c) where the person seeks to be registered in the electrical engineering discipline, the practical experience shall be practical experience in electrical engineering work obtained during a period of more than two years in an electrical organisation approved by the Board and whilst under the supervision of a registered professional engineer in the employ of the Government or who has in force a practising certificate;
  d) where the person seeks to be registered in other branches of engineering and for engineers engaged in full-time teaching or research work, such relevant practical experience as may be acceptable to the Board obtained during a period of more than two years whilst under the supervision of a registered professional engineer who has in force a practising certificate.

 An application for registration shall be accompanied by a fee of $300, which comprises a non-refundable registration fee of $150 and $150 for certificate of registration.
